Producing fast disintegrating tablets, thin-films and wafers for delivery of nanocarriers via oral delivery. Lipid and polymer based nanocarriers for targeted delivery of small molecules and macromolecules (proteins, peptides, siRNA, miRNA) in treatment of pulmonary diseases (lung cancer, asthma, COPD, fungal and bacterial infections). Lipid and polymer based nanocarriers for pulmonary delivery of vaccines. This nanotechnology is applied in the following areas: The groups work is involved in the application and understanding of novel nanocarrier systems in overcoming biological barriers for the targeted delivery of small molecules and macromolecules (proteins, peptides, siRNA, miRNA) for human and veterinary use. My research group transgresses multiple disciplines including formulation, drug delivery, nanotechnology, polymer science, chemistry, cell and molecular biology, and have published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, conference abstracts and book chapters. Upon completing my Ph.D I went on to undertake a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at University of New Mexico in the Advanced Drug Delivery Laboratory of Dr H Smyth, working in the area of dry powder inhalation of anticancer agents for treatment of lung cancer. In 2004, I received my Doctor of Philosphy (Ph.D) in drug delivery from Aston University, UK, entitled Improving diagnosis and vaccination strategies against Bovine Tuberculosis. I obtained my Pharmacy degree from the same university and am a registered pharmacist. I am a Professor in Nanomedicine within the School of Pharmacy & Biomolecular Sciences, Liverpool John Moores University, UK.
